Tim Mclnnerny and Niamh Cusack star in a BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation of Laurie Lee's classic autobiograpliy

" This... dramatisation of Lee's 1959 classic is bursting with bustle and charm"
The Times

Laurie Lee's autobiographical tale of his childhood in a secluded Cotswold valley has become a modern classic. This BBC Radio 4 production, recorded on location in Gloucestershire and featuring traditional fiddle music, stars Tim Mclnnerny and Niamh Cusack and brings vividly to life the adventures that Laurie enjoyed during those simpler, more innocent times.

Lee's world was one 'of silence... of hard work (and necessary patience... of white mads, rutted by hooves and cartwheels, innocent of oil and petrol). He recalls halcyon days of flower-filled meadows, home-made wines and church outings, but does not shirk from describing the poverty and hardship of country life. From his earliest baffling days in the village school, right through to the memorable encounter with Rosie under the haywain (after which he was 'never the same again') all the lyricism of Laurie Lee's work is beautifully portrayed in this Radio 4 Classic Serial.

Cider with Rosie is the first part of Laurie Lee's acclaimed autobiographical trilogy which continues with As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning and A Moment of War .
